This is an exceptional formal piece: a men’s kuromontsuki haori in black silk, adorned with five family crests (kamon) “Maru ni Futatsu Hiki Mon” (丸に二つ引両).
The richly decorated lining (haura) features a unique Art Deco composition, typical of urban Japan in the 1930s: a large Japanese coastal sailboat heading toward a European-style monumental bridge with lampposts and statues.
